Jay Reatard, aka Jimmy Lee Lindsey Jr., was found dead early this morning in his home in Memphis. According to Goner Records, the singer’s last record label, Reatard died in his sleep.
The Reatards was a punk band which emerged from the Memphis underground scene in the late 1990s. The performer was known for his outrageous antics on stage and for his “fast and furious music with a buzzsaw sensibility.”
In 2006, he released an album called “Blood Visions,” which received high critical acclaim. This success led him to the doors of a big shot indie music label, the Metador Records.
In 2009, he released a full-length album, “Watch Me Fall,” under Metador.
A statement posted on the record label’s Matablog says: “We are devastated by the death of Jimmy Lee Lindsey Jr., aka Jay Reatard. Jay was as full of life as anyone we’ve ever met, and responsible for so many memorable moments as a person and artist. We’re honored to have known and worked with him, and we will miss him terribly.”
