Former NBA star Jayson Williams was sentenced to five years in jail for shooting his limousine driver in 2002.
The ex-New Jersey Nets player was in tears when he apologized to the family of 55-year-old Costas “Gus” Christofi.
“I know there’s nothing I can do to bring Mr Christofi back. I am deeply deeply sorry… I pray that today brings you some comfort,” Williams said.
However, Christofi’s family seemed unforgiving. The victim’s sister, Andrea Adams, said, “Jayson Williams has been treated like a king, and it has been tragic. I believe Jayson Williams is a danger to society and should not be walking the streets.”
Aside from spending 5 years in jail, Williams was also charged for attempting to cover up the crime. He may opt to apply for parole after a year and a half for good behavior.
