It is official: Jeremy Renner (“The Hurt Locker”) will play Hawkeye and Mark Ruffalo (“The Kids Are Alright,” “13 Going On 30”) will play Bruce Banner/Hulk in the upcoming movie “The Avengers.”

The news was announced at the San Diego Comic-Con 2010, with the complete lead cast all present at the affair. The lead actors and director Joss Whedon gathered on stage as the third day of the event came to a close.

Ruffalo is replacing Edward Norton, who reportedly had a contract dispute with Marvel Studios.

Other cast members in attendance were Chris Evans (who will play Captain America), Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Robert Downey Jr (Iron Man), Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow), Clark Gregg (Agent Coulson)  and Samuel L. Jackson (Nick Fury).

“The Avengers” is scheduled for a May 2012 release in the US.
