Jhonny Peralta traded to Detroit Tigers

Cleveland Indians infielder Jhonny Peralta was traded to the Detroit Tigers today in exchange for left-handed, minor league pitcher Georvanni Soto.

The acquisition of someone with experience was a good move, according to Dave Dombrowski, the Tigers team president and general manager. “I was trying to do something to help our ballclub and do something to stay in this. We think this helps our ballclub with a solid, big-league player. We’ve got a lot of young players. Right now, it gives us another veteran presence in our lineup that’s extremely young. We’ve gotten guys on base, but we have to drive them in, too. And sometimes you have to have more of a veteran type guy who has a better chance to do that.”

Peralta, 28, hit .246 with 43 RBIs and 7 home runs in the 91 games he played this season, and he averaged .276 on the road. His new team is hoping that he could make it to the series finale versus the Tampa Bay Rays on Thursday.
