The National Hurricane Center (NHC) has reported that Jimena seemed to be gaining strength as it continues to threaten Mexico’s west coast, with a very real possibility of becoming a major hurricane by Sunday.

Satellite projections predict that Jimena will run ashore of Baja California by Wednesday, moving west-northwest at approximately 9 m.p.h. with sustained winds of about 80 m.p.h.

Jimena was observed to have hurricane-force winds extending 25 miles from its center, and tropical storm winds out to about 60 miles. The eye of the storm has been reported to be around the vicinity of Acapulco and Manzanillo.
