Dutchman Joran van der Sloot, 21, had acknowledged extorting money from (American) Natalee Holloway’s parents to get back at them for having made the last five years of his life “tough.  When they offered to pay for the girl’s location, I thought:  ‘Why not?’ ”

Van der Sloot asked a great amount of money in exchange for revealing the location of Natalee Holloway’s body.  He was indicted in the U.S. in June for extortion.  His information on the location of her body turned out false.

Vacationing Holloway was last seen with him on the Caribbean resort island of Aruba and his confessions ,done publicly, that he killed her had been retracted several times.

Van der Sloot is also charged with killing Stephany Flores in his hotel room in Lima, Peru on May 30.  He met both Holloway and Flores in casinos.

Joran van der Sloot was born in Netherlands but in 1990 his family moved to Aruba.  Anita van der Sloot-Hugen, Joran’s mother, said that ever since he had a problem with lying and had a tendency to sneak out at night to go to casinos.
