Kevin Eubanks, Jay Leno’s long-time music director, has announced that he is leaving the show to “see what else is going on.”
On Monday’s show, after Leno completed his “Headlines” segment, he told the audience that there was one more headline “involving our very own Kevin Eubanks.”
Eubanks, who became part of the Tonight Show in 1992, said, “After 18 years, I just need a change of pace and see what else is going on. But it’s a really difficult decision because this has become my second home, as it has been for the band, and I love the audience and the American people really love the show, and it’s been a wonderful experience to be here.”
Leno told him, “It has been a pleasure. You’ve been a great friend and really supportive. When those jokes die, I gotta look to you, man.”
When the host asked Eubanks what he would do after leaving the show, Eubanks replied, “I’m gonna go somewhere where I can finish a song.”
