Kickboxer Adrienne Simmons dies after fight

Adrienne Simmons, a kickboxer from Atlanta, Georgia, died on Monday, a day after suffering a devastating blow from a Muay Thai match.

According to a report by the Sentinel, Simmons lost consciousness after receiving the blow and “a referee ended the bout immediately and doctors sitting ringside were in the ring right away.” But, according to her trainer and boyfriend, they “were upset because there was no medical staff at the fight.”

Lindsay Scheer, who was Simmons’ opponent in the fight, was devastated. She wrote on her Facebook page, “I have literally been inconsolable since that moment. I did not know what it really felt like to cry. I was and am broken.”

34-year-old Simmons died at the Orlando Regional Medical Center.

The tournament, which was sponsored by the International Kickboxing Federation, was held in Orlando, Florida.
