Lakers lead 2-0 against Suns in NBA Western Finals

2010 NBA Western Conference Finals – The Los Angeles Lakers did not disappoint during Game 2 of the 2010 NBA Western Conference Finals against the Phoenix Suns Wednesday night, winning the match 124-112.

Maybe the Phoenix Suns just had too much to handle that night. Double-teaming Kobe Bryant only led him to pass to an open teammate, and Pau Gasol helped put on the pressure, effectively scoring 14 points during the fourth quarter. Gasol had 29 points for the whole game.

The Los Angeles Lakers also managed to score a skyrocketing total of 252 points in the Western Conference Finals first two games alone.

Bryant’s spectacular performance in Game 1 (40 points in 35 minutes) only attracted the Suns’ defense on him, but that didn’t stop him. A heavy onslaught of double-teamed defense ended Bryant’s six-game streak of 30-or-more point games, but he finished the night having the most assists made by a Lakers player in a post-season game since Magic Johnson in 1996. (He made 13, including two very hard baskets for Gasol in the final minutes, along with 21 points).

“It makes the game a lot easier to have [Gasol] inside to catch and complete plays,” comments Bryant. “We’re extremely well-versed in playing against teams that double and zone, things like that.”

Game 3 of the 2010 NBA Western Conference Finals will be on Sunday, May 23, at 8:30 p.m. EST.
