Unpublished love letters between the late Elizabeth Taylor and her first fiance, William Pawley, will be up for auction in May, reports The Associated Press.
More than 60 letters dating back to 1949, when Taylor was 17 and engaged to the 22-year-old son of a former ambassador to Brazil, await its new owner. They were written on pink paper in purple ink, discussing Taylor’s films, weight issue, high school experiences, and expression of love to Pawley.
“I’ve never known this kind of love before — it’s so perfect and complete — and mature,” Taylor wrote on May 6, 1949, according to the AP. “I’ve never loved anyone in my life before one third as much as I love you — and I never will (well, as far as that goes — I’ll never love anyone else — period).”
According to auction house spokesman Bobby Livingston, the letters were worth between $25,000 and $35,000 before Taylor’s death but may double or even triple up as much.
Taylor died last week at 79 because of complications of a congestive heart failure.
