A man with a weird bulge under his shirt was arrested at the airport in Mexico after the police found out that the he was actually trying to smuggle titi monkeys.
Authorities at Mexico City’s international airport said the man, named Roberto Sol Cabrera Zavaleta, was apprehended at a random checkpoint. They noticed the bulge under his shirt and how nervous he was. When they looked under his shirt, they discovered the little endangered animals stuffed in socks that were attached to a girdle Cabrera was wearing.
The Public Safety Department reported that Cabrera flew from Lima, Peru and brought the 6-inch monkeys with him. He said he bought his 18 “pet” titi monkeys for $30, placed them in a suitcase, but decided to put them in his girdle afterwards “so the X-rays wouldn’t hurt them.”
But because the titi monkeys are a protected endangered species, a permit is required to own them. Cabrera is facing charges on trafficking an endangered species.
