Filipino fighter Manny Pacquiao might just decide to retire before his famed fight against American boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr. comes to fruition, leaving many of his followers and fans hanging.
Pacquiao, regarded by many as currently the best pound-for-pound fighter there is, hinted that he might end up retiring, with his rather lackluster fight against Joshua Clottey being his last. In a statement by Manny Pacquiao Monday morning as he arrived back home in the Philippines, he said that his mother had been coaxing him to retire ever since his fight with Cotto. Pacquiao managed to convince her to fight one more time against Floyd Mayweather Jr., but plans for that fight got blotched up, and he ended up having to fight Joshua Clottey.
“Now, I don’t know how I would convince her,” says Pacquiao. “My family and I will talk about it and I’ll let [everybody] know when the decision is final.”
Pacquiao contends to his defamers that he doesn’t need the fight with Floyd Mayweather Jr. anymore, because he’s proven himself time and time again. “I’m not going to coax Mayweather into a fight, because it’s them that needs me. I’ve already attained my dreams without Mayweather.
“I’m open to fight Mayweather anytime or any boxer as long as we have the same weight and as long as the promoters approve it.”
Manny Pacquiao will start formal campaigns for a political position in the Philippines, as he is a key figure in a party representing local athletes.
