Mayweather still fighting on March 13

While Filipino boxer Manny Pacquiao has moved on and finalized a bout deal with Joshua Clottey for March 13, Floyd Mayweather Jr.’s camp has also announced that they, too, will be fighting on the same date – but an opponent has yet to be finalized.

ESPN may have put it best when they said that Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr. will still be fighting on March 13, but, unfortunately, not in the ring, but with PPV buys.

“It’s a date Golden Boy has had for a long time and nothing has changed,” says Richard Schaefer, CEO of Golden Boy Promotions, which handles Mayweather.

But while Pacquiao’s camp, led by Top Rank big cheese Bob Arum, has finalized a deal with Joshua Clottey and Cowboys owner Jerry Jones to have the March 13 fight at the Cowboys stadium in Texas, all Mayweather’s camp has right now is the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

“We have been talking to Team Mayweather to see who the opponent will be,” continues Schaefer. “I hope to have something to announce in the next few days.”

Sources share that some of Mayweather’s potential opponents may be Paulie Malignaggi and Nate Campbell, but Schaefer has flatly denied any rumors of Matthew Hatton, brother of Ricky Hatton, being considered.

“There is absolutely no truth to the rumors about Matthew Hatton. I can’t tell you for sure who Floyd will fight, but I can tell you for sure it won’t be Matthew Hatton,” concludes Schaefer.

The supposed March 13 fight between Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr. was discontinued Friday, when both parties couldn’t get into mutual agreement regarding drug testing terms that Mayweather’s camp has been proposing.
