Mayweather rejects Pacquiao, Arum’s final offer

Chances of the Mayweather-Pacquiao fight pushing through in March have significantly decreased, following Mayweather’s camp rejecting Pacquiao promoter Bob Arum’s final terms for the fight.

Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao are scheduled to fight in a WBO title match come March 13 next year, but that may have been put in jeopardy when Mayweather’s camp required Pacquiao to undergo Olympic-style blood testing in preparation for the fight.

Bob Arum, the main promoter for Pacquiao’s camp has declined, saying that Olympic-style blood testing is not required in Las Vegas, and is just plain overkill. Arum, instead, has suggested that the Mayweather camp agree to let the Nevada State Athletic Commission decide on whether the testing is actually necessary on a meeting slated for January 19.

“We are prepared to have this handled in a way that is not us deciding or them deciding,” says Arum. “Let the commission decide. If they come away and decide Manny needs to be blood tested [every single day], then we will go with that.”

However, it seems that Mayweather’s camp has already declined even Arum’s attempt at letting a third-party decide for them.

“Random is random… That is what we want and it has not changed,” says Leonard Ellerbe, chief adviser for Mayweather. “It does not make sense for this to become a commission matter. This is a contractual matter. The commission did not decide the weights or the purse split or how the foreign television rights would be sold.”

Following a formal decline from the Mayweather camp, Arum has said that he can seal a bout with Paulie Malignaggi for March 13 instead “within an hour”.

Pacquiao has also decided to pin a lawsuit against Mayweather for harm brought upon his image and reputation by Mayweather’s stringent demands on drug testing.
