Undefeated American boxing great Floyd Mayweather Jr. expressed his resolve on television, saying that he will undoubtedly defeat WBO welterweight world champion Manny Pacquiao during their highly anticipated match in March.
“Pacquiao’s a good fighter but I’ve been around the sport a long time and I’ve dominated boxing for around 15 years now,” says a confident Mayweather over on HBO TV’s Joe Buck show. “The thing is, I don’t want the fans to be really shocked by what will happen when we do happen to meet up — because it’s not going to be anything new for them.”
Mayweather stands with an undefeated record of 40 wins, 25 of which are knockouts. Pacquiao, on the other hand, challenges with a 50-3-2 career record, of which 38 are knockouts.
“The things is, Manny has been knocked out before and he’s taken losses. I’ll be victorious,” concludes Mayweather.
A report from CNN speculates however that there still may be point for argument, considering that Pacquiao has recently come from a “remarkable 12 months”, wherein he managed to beat Oscar de la Hoya, Ricky Hatton and Miguel Cotto.
Mayweather, on the other hand, has only fought once in a period of two years, where he won over Juan Manuel Marquez over a unanimous decision.
While a fight between Mayweather and Pacquiao has definitely been agreed upon, there is yet some speculation as to the fight date itself. However, as of currently, the fight seems to be leaning towards a March 13 date for 2010.
