Kathryn Grayson, a legendary entertainer who is popular for “Kiss Me, Kate,” an MGM musical, has died at her home in Los Angeles.

Grayson, who was born in North Carolina and grew up in Missouri, was a top movie star and musical performer in the 40s and 50s. She had her first break in 1941, when she starred in “Andy Hardy’s Private Secretary.” In 1945, she was in “Anchors Away,” alongside Frank Sinatra and Gene Kelly. She did “Showboat” in 1951 with Ava Gardner and Howard Keel.

She was in the Broadway version of “Camelot” in 1962, replacing Julie Andrews. She broke box office records and earned a lot of great reviews for over a year.

Grayson, who got divorced twice (first to John Shelton and second to Johnnie Johnston), is survived by her daughter with Johnston, two grandkids and four great-grandchildren.
