A white glove previously owned by Michael Jackson has sold for nearly twice the amount its auctioneers have expected.
The bejeweled glove, which was reportedly worn by Jackson in 1996 when he was wed to Debbie Rowe, apparently sold for A$57,600 (US$49,000) in Melbourne, Australia Sunday. This was the first Michael Jackson glove to go on sale since the King of Pop died last June, according to auction house Bonham and Goodman.
The glove was won by Warwick Stone, on behalf of the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas.
In November 1996, Michael Jackson had reportedly come to Sydney during his HIStory tour. Jackson had attended a premiere of the film “Ghosts“, wherein he appeared. Jackson had thrown the glove to Bill Hibble that day. Hibble, who is now deceased, was a collector of music and film memorabilia. The glove had been put to auction by Hibble’s mother.
Earlier that day, Jackson had also married Debbie Rowe.
Jackson had died of drug overdose in June, and was just buried last week in California. Police have ruled his death as a homicide, but no criminal charges have been filed so far. Jackson’s doctors are currently under investigation, with Dr. Conrad Murray, Jackson’s attending physician at the night of his death, being attributed for the crime.
