Can’t get enough of the King of Pop? Now here’s your chance to sing and dance like Michael Jackson as Ubisoft is set to release a video game dedicated for the fallen music icon.
Ubisoft is set to release the Kinect and Move version for the Xbox 360 and PS3 of “Michael Jackson: The Experience.” The French video game company has already shipped out about three million copies of the video game for the Nintendo Wii. According to Tony Key, Senior vice President of Sales and Marketing of Ubisoft, Sony has long been on the hunt for a dance game for its Move platform.
The video game will tap the camera, voice, and gesture-tracking capabilities of Kinect controllers for Xbox 360 in monitoring how well players can simulate the moves of the late music legend. It will utilize Ubisoft’s technology that plays on-screen scenes derived from Jackson’s live performances and music videos including “Thriller.”
Through animated characters, players get to see their appearance and movements. Key revealed that they will get to see their movement as they attempt to perform the steps together with the backup dancers. On the other hand, users of PlayStation 3’s Move platform get to imitate the King of Pop using their handheld wands as they try to follow the movement of the on-screen characters.
For years, Ubisoft had been an advocate of motion control for videogames as well as the capability of 3D cameras to bring gamers to the on-screen action. When Nintendo launched the Wii in 2006, the company took advantage and released its action video game “Red Steel.” In 2010, it emerged as the leading third-party developer for Kinect, Microsoft’s motion control console that allows user to play without hand held controllers and features face and voice commands.
According to Microsoft, it has sold over 10 million Kinects while Ubisoft reveals that it controls 19 percent of the videogame market for the Xbox 360 accessory which was launched in November. Ubisoft has also tapped the popular dance game genre, with about 80 percent of its titles devoted to the genre on the Nintendo Wii.
Tony Key added that their company has found success in the dance category. They believe in giving people the opportunity to strut their moves in their living rooms. The company’s Facebook page highlighted player’s experience in using their dance games and videos.
“Michael Jackson: The Experience” will cost $49.99 when it becomes on sale in the US market on Tuesday. It will be available in the European market a couple of days later.
