A throng of Michael Jackson fans trooped to the King of Pop’s childhood home Saturday in observance of his 52nd birthday.
Hosted by the city of Gary in Indiana, hundreds of fans gathered in front of his boyhood home, which is located at 2300 Jackson Street. The people took photos while the singer’s close friends and family members held an outdoor celebration.
A long line of vendors selling various Jackson-inspired stuff and memorabilia could be seen on the block. There were also Jackson impersonators from different states who performed for the audience. Kellee Patterson, a former Miss Gary and Miss Indiana title holder sang “Gone Too Soon,” and later in the night, a group of fans danced to Jackson’s hit single “Thriller.”
Mayor Rudy Clay said, “We love Michael. The song says, ‘2300 Jackson Street, always home.’ This is home and this is where we need to celebrate his birthday. They can have parties everywhere, but this is his home.”
