Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates has joined the popular microblogging site Twitter on Tuesday. His first tweet was: “‘Hello World.’ Hard at work on my foundation letter — publishing on 1/25.”
The “@BillGates” Twitter account has been there for some time, but it was not the real Gates or any of his staff members. But now, the account has been noted as “verified.”
Actor Ashton Kutcher was among the first people to welcome the software giant to Twitter. Gates tweeted to Kutcher, “Thanks to you and all the other people who have welcomed me. I’ve got a lot to learn about Twitter but look forward to sharing more.”
As of this writing, Gates has more than 129,000 followers.
He has also reactivated his Facebook account after quitting six months ago due to thousands of friend requests.
