Microsoft founder diagnosed with cancer

Paul Allen, one of the founders of Microsoft along with Bill Gates, has been diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, according to Allen’s sister in a report by the BBC.

Jody Allen, Paul’s sister, released in an internal memo that Paul “has begun chemotherapy”. Jody is currently the chief executive of Paul’s investment firm Vulcan Inc.

Paul was diagnosed earlier with Hodgkin’s disease, another form of cancer, in 1983, which resulted in him leaving Microsoft alone to Bill Gates. They co-founded Microsoft in 1975. Paul managed to overcome this disease after receiving successful treatment.

“Doctors say he has diffuse large B-cell lymphoma, a relatively common form of lymphoma,” says Jody in her memo. “[Paul] continues to work and he has no plans to change his role at Vulcan.”

Paul reportedly remains optimistic that he will also be able to recover from his current illness.
