Mysterious Norway spiral lights baffle onlookers, Web (VIDEO)

The residents of northern Norway were treated to a spectacular, albeit mysterious light show, leaving many wondering what the light could have been.

The mysterious light, which has been captured on video (also below), seemed like a star that expanded and seemed to burst into a spiral. What seemed like a blue ray of light, then shot from the center.

While people try to decipher what the light could have been, scientists are quick to conclude that the lights are definitely not the Northern Lights of common fame. Another scientist concluded that it could not have been a meteor because the light tail that it seemed to create was too long.

Arguably the best explanation currently circling the web right now is that the light could have been a Russian missile that malfunctioned during a test launch. Some evidence seems to suggest that the spiraling lights that were observed were caused by a rocket jettisoning, much like letting go of, its fuel and fuel tanks.

The show definitely leaves a lot for people to ask what it could have been.

Could it just be a coincidence about the LHC testing in the neighbouring country Sweden, earlier in the day producing the highest energy records ever?

You mean the superconductor magnet testing for the Large Hadron Collider? That's definitely an interesting angle of looking at it. I must say, that's quite piqued my curiosity for the topic again.

    Thanks for sharing that, [alwh]!

Apparently, the Russians have admitted that they caused the light. It *was* a failed missile test.
