Neda’s family harassed by Iranian authorities

The family of Neda Agha Soltan, a young woman who was shown dead on the streets during an Iranian protest rally on an amateur video, was reportedly forcibly kicked out of their home by Iranian authorities.

Reports indicate that while Neda’s family was kicked out of their apartment in eastern Tehran, Iranian authorities also refused to give them the body of their daughter, prohibited a funeral, buried the body without notice, and banned all forms of mourning and ceremony for Neda on all mosques.

Moreover, other reports are saying that the Iranian government is saying that Neda was killed by protesters, and not the Iranian police. Javan, an Iranian pro-government newspaper is saying that Jon Leyne, an ex-correspondent for the BBC, has hired thugs to assassinate Neda, so that they can fabricate a martyr story that will surely gain sympathy and possibly more support for the opposition.

Neda was shot dead during an Iranian protest rally. An individual managed to film her dead on the streets, which circulated over the Internet virally, primarily through YouTube and Twitter, and quickly became the icon of Iranian protest.
