Nicolas Cage Arrested In New Orleans

Oscar Award winner Nicolas Cage has been arrested in New Orleans after arguing with his wife intoxicated outside a residence in the French Quarter, according to police reports Saturday.

The 47-year old actor was arrested at around 11:30 pm Friday and was booked on suspicion of domestic abuse battery, disturbing the peace, and public drunkenness. New Orleans Police spokesman Garry Flot declared in a written statement. Cage was asked to appear in court on May 31.

According to Flot, Cage was in a verbal argument with his wife on a street in New Orlean’s French Quarter. The argument centered on the property they were renting which the actor claimed was the right one. However, his wife disagreed and the actor started grabbing her by the upper arm and pulled her to the right property.

During the argument, Cage began striking cars and tried getting into a taxi cab. The officer who had been flagged down by the on-lookers noticed that the actor was heavily drunk and asked him to get out of the cab forcing the actor to start yelling.

There were no clear signs of injuries to the actor’s wife, Flot revealed. Cage was released afterwards after paying $11,000 for the two charges. He was set to appear in court Saturday afternoon. Representatives for the actor could not be reached for comments Saturday.

Nicolas Cage had been frequently visiting New Orleans, where he owned a property in the French Quarter. However, it was foreclosed by a bank and was sold in an auction. He had made movies in New Orleans such as “Bad Lieutenant 2: Port of Call New Orleans. Despite being ranked among the highest paid actors in Hollywood, Nicolas Cage has experienced financial troubles.

In addition, Cage had been behind on taxes and had to sell several assets due to his financial woes. In October 2009, he filed a suit against his former business manager for $20 million, saying that his advice caused him to be in financial trouble.

Nicolas Cage is the nephew of film director Francis Ford Coppola. He gained popularity for movies such as “Raising Arizona,” “Gone in 60 Seconds,” and “National Treasure.” He has twice received nominations for an Academy Award, bagging an Oscar for his role as a down-and-out alcoholic in “Leaving Las Vegas.”
