Nomar Garciaparra signed a one-day contract with the Boston Red Sox so that he could retire as a member of the Red Sox at age 36.
The two-time batting champion announced his retirement in a press conference this morning. He is set to be part of the ESPN analyst team for the show “Baseball Tonight.”
Garciappara played a total of nine seasons with the Red Sox, and the past five seasons with the Los Angeles Dodgers, Chicago Cubs and Oakland A’s. He was part of the Boston team that won the World Series in 2004, its first in 86 years.
His 14-year career in the MLB earned him six All Stars and the following career stats:
