OFFICIAL: Mayweather vs Pacquaio bout off

Any chance of the widely anticipated bout between unbeaten Floyd Mayweather Jr. and seven-weight-division title holder Manny Pacquaio was snuffed dead when both fighters’ sides couldn’t reach a mutual agreement about fight details Wednesday.

Apparently, both sides couldn’t find equal footing regarding Mayweather’s demands that Pacquiao undergo Olympic-style drug testing – even after a strenuous nine-hour mediations on Tuesday and further discussion Wednesday.

The WBO welterweight title bout between Mayweather and Pacquiao was scheduled for March 13, and was expected to be the highest revenue-grossing fight in recent boxing history. That, however, was thrown in disarray when Mayweather demanded that Pacquiao undergo random blood and urine testing before and after the fight, a demand that Pacquiao refused.

Pacquiao head promoter Bob Arum explains that having blood drawn 30 days prior to the fight would have negative effects on the athlete’s training and condition, something that can cause an eventual loss. Pacquiao’s camp has agreed to the testing before and even immediately after the fight – just not 30 days before.

“The fight’s off; Mayweather never wanted it,” exclaims Arum.
