Pacquiao shuts out Clottey over unanimous decision

Manny Pacquiao managed to defend his title belt against Joshua Clottey Saturday night, as the two fought at the Dallas Cowboys stadium in Arlington, Texas.

Filipino pound-for-pound warrior Pacquiao didn’t manage to muster a knockout win against Ghana fighter Clottey, but he did score a win through unanimous decision over Clottey. Scorecards for the fight spelled a Pacquiao win at 120-108, 119-109 and 119-109 over three judges.

Boxing critics and spectators alike are pointing out that Clottey lost primarily because he wasn’t fighting at all; the number of punches thrown by Clottey during a single round in the Pacquiao bout was way below the average number of punches thrown in an average welterweight bout, according to a ringside commentator.

“He has speed, but at the same time, I lost the fight. He is fast, he tried to open  me, but I was taking my time,” says a defeated Clottey.

People are now clamoring for a Pacquia0 – Mayweather fight, after a scheduled Mayweather - Mosley fight on May 1. The winner gets the chance to take a bout with Pacquiao.

“Come on Floyd,” Freddie Roach, Pacquiao’s trainer, has been quoted as commenting after the fight. “The world wants to see this fight. Come on Floyd, come and fight us.”
