A Taliban suicide attacker in northwest Pakistan left at least 17 police officials and civilians dead, after detonating a car behind a police station.
According to reports, four adults, nine policemen, and four students were killed in the suicide bombing in Lakki Marwat. Around 40 people were hurt and wounded. Local authorities are still coordinating with the rescue teams to dig out possible survivors trapped under the rubble.
The Pakistani Taliban already came forward and admitted to be behind the attack. They said they wanted to stop the police from encouraging the people to build militias that would fight the militants.
In a phone interview with the Associated Press, Ahsanullah Ahsan, spokesman for the Taliban, said, “After the police, we will attack those active in forming anti-Taliban lashkars if they have not given up their activities.”
Just last week, around 80 people were killed by two separate suicide attacks in the citiesof Quetta and Lahore.
