Larry Platt, a 63-year-old civil rights veteran who showed up at the American Idol auditions in Atlanta, Georgia and performed his original masterpiece “Pants on the Ground,” has been offered a recording contract.
Scott Thomas, CEO of Jake Records, confirmed the news on Wednesday. He said, “General Larry Platt has an energy about him that is infectious. We’d love to work with Mr. Platt to generate some exposure for his original song, but also the causes that he holds near and dear to him.”
Platt’s debut on television last week was such a hit that hours after the show, he became one of the most popular topics in cyberspace. Several “Pants on the Ground” versions have already been uploaded on YouTube since Wednesday, and have generated at least 6 million views and clicks.
Even Jimmy Fallon did a cover of the song on his show Thursday night.
Platt is set to appear on “The View,” an ABC daytime talk show, next week.
