Former University of Southern California Trojans quarterback Pat Haden will replace Mike Garrett as the university’s athletic director.
The announcement was made on Tuesday by USC president-elect C.L. Max Nikias, on top of several other changes that will occur within the athletic department. Garrett has held the job for 17 years and he is set to retire on August 3.
Nikias named new officials and also set new rules. A new associate athletics director for football was also selected, and the job went to J.K. McKay, who is the son of ex-USC coach John McKay.
Nikias said murals of two athletes involved in a cheating scandal, football player Reggie Bush and basketball player O.J. Mayo, at the Heritage Hall, the Galen Center and the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum will be taken down.
He said, “The Trojan Family honors and respects the USC sporting careers of those persons whose actions did not compromise their athletic program or the opportunities of future USC student-athletes.”
Haden started at the USC as a Rhodes Scholar in 1972-1974 before embarking on a career in the NFL with the Los Angeles Rams. He later became a college football game announcer. He has also been a USC board of trustees member for 19 years.
