Former Patriots RB Mosi Tatupu dead at 54
 

Ex-Patriots running back Mosi Tatupu, an American Samoa native, has died Tuesday, but the cause of his death is still unknown.

According to reports, Tatupu suffered from several ailments including high-blood pressure. “He had some health issues,” a family friend said.

Tatupu, who was born in Pago, played for the Patriots for 13 seasons. He was drafted in 1978. He started his football career in Honolulu where he played for the Punahou High. For 17 years, he was the record-holder for career yards in the state of Hawaii.

He played for the University of Southern California in college.

Tatupu, a Hawaii Sports Hall of Famer, had 18 touchdowns in his whole NFL career. He played a total of 202 games, from 1978 to 1990. He was part of the Patriots team that went to Super Bowl XX and lost to the Bears.

His memorial service is set to be held in Punahou.
