Peter Graves, the stalwart actor who became famous for his role in the television series “Mission Impossible,” has died on Sunday. He was 83.
According to his publicist Sandy Brokaw, Graves suffered from a cardiac arrest outside of his home in Los Angeles.
Grave went out with his family for brunch and collapsed just before he entered the house. He was given CPR by one of his daughters, but she was not able to revive him.
Graves played the role of Jim Phelps, gang leader of a group of special agents in “Mission Impossible.” The show was aired on CBS between 1967 and 1973 and transferred to ABC between 1988 and 1990.
Graves appeared in over 70 tv shows and films. Among his most popular movies was “Stalag 17,” a 1953 classic where he played the character of a Nazi spy sent to a German camp of American POWs.
Graves is survived by his wife, three daughters and six grandchildren.
