Twitter has been abuzz again today with pseudo-news coverages of the calamity that struck California Saturday. Local news platoons are either resting for the weekend, or have been crippled by the earthquake themselves, so most people turned to Twitter for updates. Here are some of the pictures that have been flying around.

The earthquake clocked in at a 6.5 magnitude on the Richter scale, and hit Northern California at about 4:27 p.m. PT. Most affected was Eureka, with the epicenter of the quake just 25 miles from it.

If that doesn’t really sound like much, Wikipedia shares that a 6.5 magnitude quake is already classified as “strong”, with destructive force within a 100-mile area. These earthequakes typically occur an average of 120 separate incidents per year worldwide.

Reports have already started coming in that power has been restored to some of the affected areas, but restoration is still underway.

Given that the calamity occurred on a Saturday, most people found that Twitter was the place to go for updates on what’s been happening. If you’ve got more pictures to share, and/or updates, be sure to leave them for the others in our comments.
