Plane forces emergency landing because of hole

A Southwest Airlines flight bound for Baltimore, Maryland was forced to make an emergency landing in Charleston, West Virginia after a football-sized hole caused the plane’s main cabin to depressurize.

Southwest Flight 2294 reported no injuries among its 126 passengers and five crew members.

The plane reported the break in the cabin while it was flying at approximately 33,500 feet. It managed to complete an emergency landing at around 5:10 p.m., according to Marilee McInnis, a spokesperson for Southwest.

“There is no responsible way to speculate as to a cause at this point,” Southwest was reported as having said.

The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board are both investigating the incident, and are also inspecting the other 181 Boeing 737 planes in Southwest’s fleet for possible similar problems.
