Sony, the makers of the Playstation 3, has now confirmed that a fix has been developed for a bug that hit console owners last Sunday.
The company confirmed that the glitch with the affected Playstation 3 units occurred when the internal date and clock of the system switched from February to March. Sony says that affected Playstation 3 units mistakenly considered 2010 as a leap year – meaning that these units were expecting that February had 29 days instead of 28 this year.
“We are aware that the internal clock functionality in the PlayStation (PS3) units other than the slim model, recognized the year 2010 as a leap year,” said a spokesman from Sony. “Having the internal clock date change from 29 February to 1 March (both GMT), we have verified that the symptoms are now resolved and that users are able to use their PS3 normally.”
Sony says that users who are still experiencing technical problems with their units should just try to adjust the date and time settings of their consoles manually or via the internet.
Playstation 3 units started exhibiting the weird error on Sunday, when console owners noticed that they couldn’t connect to the Playstation Network, nor could they run some of their games offline. Sony confirms that the bug, however, only affected non-slim type models of the Playstation 3.
