Rare yellow lobster captured in Narragansett Bay

A very rare yellow lobster was caught last week in Narragansett Bay off the coast of Newport, Rhode Island.

Experts say the chance of discovering this unique find is only around 1 in 30 million.

Denny Ingram, the lobsterman who found the extraordinary crustacean, said, “I thought, holy cow, this is unusual. No one else around here has ever seen anything like it either.”

Lobster shells come in three general colors: yellow, blue and red. Red is the most common, while the two others are rare. The blue ones occur in 1 in every 4 million lobsters.

Ingram said he is going put the bright yellow lobster on display at the Newport State Pier’s fishermen’s co-op.
