Released: Google Chromium OS hardware compatibility list

Earlier last month, Google released a preview of its Google Chrome OS, but aficionados were limited to building and running the controversial operating system on a virtual machine (such as VMWare).

Now, however, Google has released a list of compatible hardware wherein you can build Google Chrome’s open source flavor, Google Chromium OS, allegedly without any modifications. If you’re wanting as hassle-free an installation as possible (and if you’re comfortable with building your own operating system from the source code), then mosey on over to the Chromium Project site to check out if your hardware complies.

If you have your hands on compatible hardware, then don’t forget to get the Google Chromium OS source code.

If, unfortunately, you don’t have the hardware necessary, you can still demo Google’s Chrome OS using VMWare. Everything you need is available for download over on gdgt, though you’ll need to register with their site.

For a general run-through of what Google’s Chrome OS (and Chromium OS, consequently) is, we published a quick look into Google’s new operating system in a previous article (with videos too).
