Sally Field has been selected to play Mary Todd Lincoln, first lady of former U.S. President Abraham Lincoln, in an upcoming film by Steven Spielberg.
In a statement released by Spielberg, he said, “I’m excited to be working with Sally for the first time. I’ve admired her films, and she has always been my first choice to portray all the fragility and complexity that was Mary Todd Lincoln.”
“Lincoln” is a historical drama that will start filming in the fall. Daniel Day-Lewis has been cast to play the character of the 16th American president. The movie is targeting a late 2012 release.
