Bobby Gonzalez, an ex-coach of Seton Hall’s men’s basketball team, was arrested Monday after allegedly shoplifting from a store in the Short Hills Mall in New Jersey.
The 47-year-old has been accused of stealing a men’s satchel worth $1,400 from the Polo Ralph Lauren store. He was taken to into custody by the police and was charged with shoplifting and criminal mischief.
According to Gonzalez’s attorney, Gerry Krovatin, the incident was a “misunderstanding and a series of miscommunications.”
Gonzalez, who also used to coach Manhattan, was axed on March 17 after Seton Hall got tired of his exploits on, and even off, the court. He earned his seventh technical foul just before the decision to fire him was made.
If Gonzalez is found guilty with the shoplifting charges, he could spend up to five years in prison.
