At least seven people were killed with 91 others injured when a car bomb driven by a suicide bomber detonated in Kabul, Afghanistan on Saturday morning.
The blast occurred within the vicinity of the NATO Headquarters located in the Afghan capital, along with the Afghan Transport Ministry. The local United States Embassy was also located nearby, but according to reports, no individual was injured within the said compound.
Most of affected individuals were Afghan Army Guards situated near the NATO compound entrance, and civilian workers in the transport ministry.
The Taliban have also claimed responsibility for the explosion, through their spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid, and have also admitted that the initial target of the bomb blast was to be the United States Embassy, but they could not reach it and, instead, aimed for a nearby vehicle containing foreign troops.
Afghanistan is scheduled to hold its next presidential election in five days, with the current Afghan president Hamid Karzai seeking reelection.
