Sex and exercise can trigger heart attacks in older people who don’t get much of either, a new analysis finds.
According to the study published in Wednesday’s Journal of the American Medical Association, “the risk is low, but slackers – especially those in middle age – should change their exercise habits gradually.”
“People who exercise regularly have a much smaller risk of having a heart attack immediately after sexual or physical activity,” lead author Dr. Issa Dahabran of Tufts Medical Center in Boston said. “It would be really bad if someone thought our paper means people should not exercise. If anything, it’s the opposite.”
The analysis combined results from 14 studies involving more than middle-aged 6,000 patients, who have had heart attacks or died suddenly from a heart problem and were studied of their activities prior to their attacks or deaths.
