And yes, we’re definitely not talking about cats.

The Singles Travel Company,the world’s largest nonprofit singles travel group, is sponsoring an international event they call the “Cougar Cruise“. Scheduled for this Friday, the cruise ship Elation will take approximately 300 participants on a cruise from San Diego, California to Ensenada, Mexico. The cruise is set to last for three nights.

“A cougar is generally known as a woman over 40 who likes to date younger men, but theoretically any woman who dates younger men is a cougar,” according to Rich Gosse, the brainchild of the Cougar Cruise idea.

The group is expressing their excitement over the fact that the event has already been overbooked so soon, and that the $125 tickets for the cruise have been devoured by interested participants from all over the globe.

“I’ve had to hire two more people part-time just to pick up the phones,” said Ann Thomas, owner of the Singles Travel Company. “I’ve never seen a response quite like this. We have people flying in from Italy and Denmark. My associates have been booking from France, Canada. It’s fascinating.”

Social analysts are speculating that, while it has been generally acceptable for men to date younger women, the opposite has grown more and more appealing in recent years because of celebrities like Ashton Kutcher and Demi Moore.

“Now we’re seeing a paradigm shift where [younger guys] are actively looking for older women,” says Gosse, implying that guys are now looking more towards finding more experienced partners.
