A brand new scientific report concludes something that isn’t entirely brand new: smoking causes muscles to tire faster than normal.
Rob Wüst said in his Ph.D. thesis that smokers tire much more quickly that non-smoker, no matter how heavy or frequent they actually smoke. He reiterates that smoking has an immediate effect on the body’s muscles, both directly and indirectly. The substances in a cigarette, and the oxygen deficiency resulting from having to inhale mostly cigarette smoke cause muscle abnormalities and immediate fatigue. Wüst was studying smoking’s effect on skeletal muscles for this thesis.
This study has beneficial impact in the way smokers perform physical activity, even something as simple as exercise. Not only do smokers have to worry about chronic diseases such as lung cancer, but also the immediate effects on their body.
