UPDATE: NASA has shared that they will also be postponing today’s second landing attempt, as the weather over Florida’s coast is still not cooperating. NASA has released a statement, saying that they are hoping for an early Tuesday landing date instead.
Looks like the space shuttle Discovery and its crew will stay in orbit for at least one more day.
The original story follows below.
NASA was expecting to land the space shuttle Discovery early Monday, but rain and heavy clouds along Florida’s Atlantic coast has forced them to postpone the landing for another time.
“An unexpected cloud ceiling settled over the Kennedy Space Center area preventing space shuttle Discovery’s first landing opportunity,” said NASA in a statement. The shuttle was scheduled to arrive at Kennedy International Airport today. The shuttle’s route would have taken it across the northern Pacific, zooming through a good part of North America.
Space shuttle Discovery just finished a 14-day mission where they performed a number of maintenance tasks aboard the International Space Station (ISS), including the installation of the Leonardo Multi-Purpose Logistics Module.
NASA has shared that they will attempt another landing at 10:23 a.m. EST.
