Aerosmith frontman Steve Tyler has entered a rehab facility to treat his addiction to painkillers.
In a statement released by the 61-year-old rock star on Tuesday, he said, “I love Aerosmith. I love performing as the lead singer in Aerosmith. I am grateful for all of the support and love I am receiving and am committed to getting things taken care of.”
“I am taking responsibility for the management of my pain,” he added.
Liv Tyler, his daughter, said, “We love him and are so proud that he is getting help to balance his pain management, not just for himself but for his family, friends and fans.”
Aerosmith had cancelled their August summer tour this year after Tyler fell and broke his left shoulder during a gig in South Dakota.
The band vocalist was notorious for alcohol and drug abuse in the 70s and the 80s. He was able to complete a rehab program in 1986, which led to the successful return of his band in the music scene.
