Takeru Kobayashi arrested after Joey Chestnut wins hotdog eating contest

Takeru Kobayashi, aka the “Tsunami,” was arrested on Sunday after trying to go up on stage and crash the celebration of Joey Chestnut’s victory.

Joey Chestnut, aka the “Jaws,” was just awarded the first prize in the 95th annual Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Competition when the trouble started. He was able to eat 54 hot dogs in just ten minutes. Shortly after that, Kobayashi, wearing a “Free Kobi” shirt, attempted to jump on stage but police got hold of him.

Kobayashi did not participate in the contest because of contractual issues. He dominated the competition for six straight years until Chestnut stole the title from him in 2007.

Chestnut downed a record-setting 68 hot dogs last year.

Kobayashi is facing charges on resisting arrest, trespassing, and obstructing governmental administration.
