Talk radio network Air America to go off the air soon

Air America, a progressive talk radio network which utilized the talents of famous liberal commentators like now-Senator Al Franken and Randi Rhodes, said on Thursday that it would soon go off the air.

In a memorandum by Air America Media chairman Charlie Kireker, it said, “It is with the greatest regret, on behalf of our board, that we must announce that Air America Media is ceasing its live programming operations as of this afternoon, and that the company will file soon under Chapter 7 of the Bankruptcy Code to carry out an orderly winding down of the business.”

Staff members were not completely surprised with the decision. Founded in 2004, Air America never had a solid fan base or a stable financial status. It filed for bankruptcy protection two years later, but continued to stay on the air.

On Thursday evening, Air America began playing reruns of its programs. The company said that it would completely cease broadcasting next Monday night.
