Two big red granite statues were unearthed in Southern Egypt by a team of archaeologists.

Both statues were buried at a pharaoh’s mortuary temple on the west bank of Nile in the city of Luxor and are over 3,000 years old.

One of the statues that was found was that of Thoth, the ancient god of wisdom. It is one of the tallest deity statues ever discovered at about 4 meters high.

The other statue was that of Amenhotep III, the grandfather of Tutankhamun. He ruled the Egyptian kingdom between 1387-and 1348 B.C.

Back in March 2009, archaeologists have also unearthed several artifacts and statues buried under the ruins, including two Amenhotep statues made of black granite.

They said the temple was destroyed by great floods.
