Tiger Woods named AP Athlete of the Decade
 

The members of the Associated Press selected Tiger Woods as the Athlete of the Decade on Wednesday, amidst the controversies and sex scandals involving the golfer.

He has won 56 PGA Tours in a decade, a feat that is unprecedented in this sport. He won the British Open twice. He has earned 12 major titles and three career Grand Slams.

Out of the 142 votes cast by the AP editors, 56 went to Woods.

Finishing second on the list is Lance Armstrong, a six-time Tour de France winner, who is also a cancer survivor. He received 33 votes. Next on the list is Roger Federer, who boasts of winning more Grand Slam singles titles than any tennis player in the world, with 25 votes.

Michael Phelps, the record-setting Olympic swimmer, got 13 votes. New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady received 6 and Jamaican sprinter Usain Bolt got 4.

This decade, Woods made $81,547,410 from his PGA Tours.
