After months of dodging the media, Tiger Woods finally broke his silence in a press conference Friday and apologized for the extramarital affairs he had with several women.
Woods delivered his speech looking glum. He looked straight into the cameras and said, “I was unfaithful. I had affairs. I cheated. What I did was unacceptable. I have only myself to blame.”
“I am deeply sorry for the irresponsible and selfish behavior I engaged in,” he went on. “I know people want to find out how I could be so selfish and so foolish. People want to know how I could have done these things to my wife, Elin, and my children.”
A few friends and journalists were in the room, but not his wife Elin. “I am so sorry. I have a lot to atone for.”
He begged the media to leave his family alone. He denied the speculations that Elin attacked him on Thanksgiving, and said his wife “has shown enormous grace and poise throughout this ordeal. Elin deserves praise, not blame.”
